oh debian you milf of all distros. i have debian on all my machines, with trixie/sid running sway on my thinkpad and 12 bookworm with GNOME desktop installed on a mini business PC from 2009 (thee hp compaq elite 8000) and a 2017 intel macbook air.
the compaq was initially for headless server experiments with docker, but i have a greater need for a Big Screen. besides productivity, it functions as a media server, more or less, for my "i refuse to pay for crunchyroll" supply of one piece (everything but wano).
the macbook air runs cockos REAPER's .deb with pipewire-jack like a dream, though for some reason i use qjackctl? that said, i hardly use REAPER much. the license from a past life hangs over me like the sword of damocles considering i pretty much only record one-take lo-fi covers on my TASCAM. the most i'll do is snip off the beginnings and ends, which audacity is more than enough for.
i'm a little (im)patiently awaiting debian 13 because some very minor cosmetic sway packages (swaybg, sway-output) are three versions behind upstream and break the silliest, least obtrusive ways.
i can't tell if the release cycle is a problem for me or not. the main thing i want to keep up to date is neovim, which i can just build from source.
